The purpose of the baby gate at the top of the stairs is to keep the baby (now 19 months old) from falling down the stairs. It also keeps big sister from falling down the stairs when they’re rough-housing or running crazed through the hallway at the top of the stairs.
This morning when hubby left, I heard him close the gate. I kept playing with kids in Little Man’s room. Kids left me. I heard them at the gate (one of them usually shakes on their way past to check if they’re really trapped). Then their voices started moving in an odd direction… down.
As I ran down the stairs I asked Bean if she opened the gate. “yeah, mama. we just wanted to go downstairs. So I just reached up and, um, I just opened it. I just did. Wanna come play with us downstairs?”
So much for keeping them ‘trapped’ behind the gate at the top of the stairs.
